My approach is direct, hands-on, and solution-focused.  I work as a relationship and dating coach, marriage counselor and family coach, life coach, job search and career/business/organizational coach, and executive coach, who will work with you, step by step, helping to move you towards the attainment of your desired goals, whether marital, family, job search or career, organizational/workplace, business or entrepreneurial.

With respect to interpersonal and emotional/psychic/psychological issues, traditional psychotherapy so often misses the mark; in fact, it often keeps people “stuck” in their problems.  In fact, traditional psychoanalytic method simply does not work for the vast majority of people. Where psychotherapy is indicated and necessary, I utilize alternative, holistic, proactive methods and teach techniques and tools to my clients for their use between sessions rather than simply passively listening and asking clients "how does that make you feel?" Holistic, alternative, and largely nontraditional methods are what I find to be most effective.

What do the words "holistic" and "alternative" mean in the context of relationship work? They mean that my work contemplates that your relationship issues are the result of a number of factors including not only the dynamics of your relationship itself, but also the individual emotional, health -- of body, mind, and spirit -- of each partner. Any relationship can be only as strong as each partner's own health. So whether we're utilizing "Emotionally Focused Therapy", principles of "Imago Therapy", or whether I'm teaching "active listening", communication skills, facilitating guided imagery, leading in meditation for stress reduction, teaching Emotional Freedom Technique ("EFT") to deal with overwhelming feelings, facilitating hypnotherapy or utilizing "Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing" ("EMDR"), our goal is the most effective route to a healed relationship and to a healed "you".

I completed an externship in "Emotionally Focused Therapy" developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, which is considered by many to be the most successful approach to couples counseling in the world today. EFT is one of the best documented, most substantive, and well-researched approaches to couples therapy; it stands as one of the best validated couples interventions in North America. EFT has achieved an astounding 75 percent success rate, with 86 percent of couples reporting feeling happier in their relationships. This is in stark comparison to other forms of couples therapy which have been shown in studies to be only about 35 percent effective in healing relationships.

Click on the "SERVICES" page link above to learn about the differences between coaching and psychotherapy. Whether I'm doing coaching or psychotherapy, I often assign "homework" because much of the "work" is done between our sessions.  And, I'm there to hold my clients accountable, to help them stay abreast of their progress, and to help them work through challenges along the way. I see myself as holding the space for my clients' potential, wisdom, talents and innate abilities to shine.

About 18 months ago, I found myself at a crossroads in my career and personal life. Being a physician myself, I wasn't sure what to expect from a life coach I found through the internet. Looking back, I consider myself very lucky to have discovered David S. Wilde in exactly this way.

In the past, I've tried traditional therapy several times but never found it helpful, only frustrating. What made the life coach experience with David Wilde so different is that he encouraged me to focus on my strengths and not my weaknesses. He didn't treat me as someone with a psychological problem but rather as an individual with a range of choices. He made it his job to help me sort through the options, to let go of those that would increase my frustration, and to pursue alternatives that would bring me happiness.

With David's help, I was able to find a great job that gives me everything I was hoping for in terms of enjoyment and the feeling that what I do is valuable. And more importantly, in my personal life, I was able to define what I needed in a relationship and to understand why my significant other at the time wasn't serving my best interests. David's perceptions are laser-sharp when it comes to assessing the pluses and minuses of relationships. What I appreciated most were that he always highlighted my abilities, rooted for me, and helped me to make the correct decision. After every session, I felt empowered and invigorated -- a far cry from traditional psychotherapy, which delves into the origins of one's flaws and can cause a sense of sadness, loss, or inadequacy.

David gives his clients homework -- but he does his homework too. At every session I knew he had read what I emailed to him, and not only that, he also thought about it. At the beginning, he used a device called the Wheel of Life. Initially, mine was lacking in satisfaction in several areas. After a few short months of working with David, I can honestly say that every segment of my Wheel of Life is close to 100% in terms of happiness and fulfillment of my goals. ~Susan, Physician
